CenPEG briefs major TV network

In aid of in-depth coverage of the Automated Election System (AES), GMAnews.TV, the online news arm of GMA Network, Inc., invited CenPEG for a briefing on the Philippine AES to its editorial staff.

In the briefing held February 26 at the GMAnews.TV offices in Quezon City, Dr. Pablo Manalastas, CenPEG IT Consultant, gave an overview of the AES technology adopted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). He also discussed in detail major technical issues on the program and data integrity of the AES.

CenPEG’s Ayi Dela Cruz also presented AES Watch’s STAR Card or the System Trustworthiness, Accountability and Readiness Card. The STAR Card is a monitoring tool developed by AES Watch to assess the readiness of the AES for the May 2010 elections.

Also present as reactors were Prof. Bobby Tuazon, CenPEG’s director for policy studies and Alfredo Pascual, AES Watch convenor and UP Alumni Association (UPAA) president.

Since 2009, CenPEG’s research associates, Fellows, and IT consultants had given briefings on the AES to other media networks as well as various political parties, presidential candidates, multi-sectoral groups, church and business communities. It has also been holding voters’ education and poll watching to various organizations and communities al over the country since February 2009.
