3rd
Summer VOLUNTEERS INTEGRATION PROGRAM 2006
Part
of CenPEG's Volunteer Integration Program
(VIP) is providing students the opportunity to study various
political issues of current and national relevance. In order to
maximize their learning experience, integrating students are also
required to produce concrete outputs that can be realized as direct
services to the people.
In
the summer of 2006, Political Science and Mass Communications students
from UP Manila and UP Diliman respectively, partook in CenPEG's
VIP Program for the year.

Summer VIP orientation with UPManila Political Science students
and UPDiliman Mass Communication students.
Students
of UP Manila were tasked to do research on a number of political
issues at the time. One group conducted research on the Parliamentary
System , with the objective of analyzing existing parliamentary
governments and determine whether such a political system is less
prone to corruption or not. Another group focused on the Party List
System, using the Batasan 5 as a case study. A third group compiled
common terminologies used to describe the phenomenon of corruption
in the Philippines -- their efforts led to the creation of a "Corruptionary,"
or a dictionary containing words and their definitions relating
to corruption.
Meanwhile,
five groups composed of Mass Communication students from UP Diliman
produced separate audio-visual documentaries on a number of subjects.
Three groups documented community life in two barangays in Sta.
Mesa, Manila, and the ATI community
in Montalban, Rizal. Another group produced a youth version
of the "Dapat Tapat" good
governance video, featuring youth icons Atom Araullio and Patty
Laurel. The last group produced a video documentary titled, "Cha-Cha:
Dirty Dancing with Gloria," which discussed government efforts
to amend the Constitution (the video can be downloaded

Bayanor at youngradicals.blogspot.com)
At
the end of their VIP program, students were allowed to share their
studies and audio-visual productions to the
Ati community in Rizal. Integrating with the indigenous Ati
for three days, which provided them firsthand learning experience
on Philippine realities, students showed their films and sponsored
art classes for Ati children.
The
VIP 2006 culminated in a Roundtable Discussion on "Charter
Change and Corruption" last May 30, 2006, which coincided with
simple recognition rites for National Artist and CenPEG board of
director
