Ex-Ombudsman Marcelo signs appeal for source code review
Former Ombudsman Simeon V. Marcelo added his signature on Oct. 20 to the letter of appeal asking the Commission on Elections to release the election source code in compliance with the poll automation law (RA 9369).
The appeal, issued originally with 80 signatories last Oct. 3, 2009, gathered 108 more signatories from all over the country as of this writing.
Marcelo, one of the prosecutors in the impeachment of President Joseph Estrada that led to his ouster in January 2001, is the current President of the Philippine Bar Association.
Among the new signatories are: Bishop Eliezer M. Pascua, general secretary of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines; Prof. Alberto Medalla of the Ateneo de Manila University’s information systems and computer science department with 10 other faculty members; Maria Teresa Bayle, high school principal of St. Therese’s College (Quezon City) with 25 other faculty members; Maricor Akol of Transparentelections.org; and Rick Bahague, coordinator of the Computer Professionals’ Union (CPU).
