GLOBAL FINANCIAL
MELTDOWN
THE
SIMULTANEOUS unfolding of the U.S. presidential campaign and unraveling
of the financial markets presents one of those occasions where
the political and economic systems starkly reveal their nature.
It
was a discreet, almost hush-hush affair, but after almost three

Paulson's
swindle revealed
By William Greider
The Nation
October 29, 2008
The swindle of American taxpayers is proceeding more or less in
broad daylight, as the unwitting voters are preoccupied with the
national election. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson agreed to invest
$125 billion in the nine largest banks, including $10 billion
for Goldman Sachs, his old firm.
It's
now official. In January 2008, the American Dialect Society selected
'subprime' as 2007's Word of the Year. 'Everyone is talking about
subprime,' said Wayne Glowka, a society spokesman. 'It's affecting
all kinds of people in all kinds of places.'
