Local campaign begins
October 14, 2010 marks the start of the campaign period for barangay (village) and SK election in the country. Candidates can now post their posters and play their campaign jingles in their respective territorial prospects. Under the Commission of Elections (Comelec) Resolution 9043 the campaign for the October 25 local election is from October 14-23, 2010.
Comelec reminded the candidates about the rule on posting campaign materials that it should only be in common poster areas such as plazas, markets, and barangay centers. The prescribed size for the campaign materials are: 8 ½ x 14 inches, for poster 2x3 feet, and for streamers 3x8 feet.
Green issues urged in barangay and SK elections
Environmental advocates urge local candidates for the Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) to include in their platforms environmental concerns.
“The October 25 polls provide an exceptional platform for would-be public servants to make a stand for the environment. We call upon all candidates and their supporters to conduct a simple and caring campaign that will preserve and protect the community environment from destructive practices,” EcoWaste Secretary Dr. Leah Primitiva Samaco-Paquiz said.
