Ex-Senator Pimentel urges Angara to inhibit self from poll tribunal
As the lead counsel for son Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, former Sen. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. has asked Sen. Edgardo Angara to inhibit himself from further sitting in the proceedings of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET).
Earlier, Koko Pimentel filed a Manifestation with Motion for the Disqualification of Senators Angara, Loren Legarda, and Lito Lapid from taking part in the deliberations of the SET on June 24, 2010. However, in July 2010, the three senators resumed their attendance in the tribunal.
Koko Pimentel’s electoral protest against Miguel Zubiri in the 2007 congressional elections remains pending. The protest was based on allegedly dubious election returns from Maguindanao.
National Board of Canvassers to convene
Resolution No. 10-068, issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Dec. 2, schedules the reconvening of the National Board of Canvassers to canvass the certificate of canvass from the special elections conducted in Lanao del Sur held on Nov. 13, 2010.
The Comelec reconvened on Dec. 6, 2010.
Comelec adopts rules of procedure for recount
In response to election protests filed in connection with the May 10 2010 Automated National and Local elections, the Commission on Elections issued Resolution No. 9104 on Nov. 30, 2010 that sought to adopt Resolution No. 8804 which contains the rules of procedure in resolving election disputes. It also seeks to amend parts of the resolution.
There are numerous protests demanding the recount of the ballots which were initially counted and tallied by the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines. These were addressed in the protocol of Resolution 8804 Rule 15. But for the proper implementation of the procedure, the poll body formulated new measures to support the original resolution.
